Speed first to recycle paper towels.

Written by Speed | December 02, 2024

Speed is now taking the lead in sustainability efforts in Borås municipality and will be the first company in the area to introduce recycling of paper towels. As one of Sweden's leading logistics and staffing companies, we continue, as an already climate-neutral company, to break new ground for a more sustainable future.

We are now closing the loop by introducing the recycling of our paper towels - a circular handling where the towels become new tissue products. In this way, we reduce both our waste and our carbon footprint. We reduceCO2 emissions by 40% compared to traditional waste management of paper towels.

     - We are already climate neutral today, but this does not affect our ambitions to constantly find new ways to reduce our environmental impact. It's great that we're the first in Borås to do this and hopefully we can inspire more companies to follow suit. It is a brilliant example of how a small change can make a big difference. Sustainability is very much about daring to think in new ways and creating a positive chain reaction, says Camilla Parneving, Communications & Marketing Manager at Speed.

The idea for the project came from one of our suppliers - Ahnviks Papper. Together, we have worked hard for many years to find solutions and products to reduce material consumption in the business without losing quality. First out were drying products to be followed by sacks, paper, corrugated board, packaging and stretch film. Now we are taking it a step further by also recycling materials.

     - Many small streams lead to positive changes. This initiative means that Speed will recycle about 4 tons of paper annually, which instead of going to incineration now gets a new life, says Johan Flodin, Sustainability Manager at Ahnviks Papper.

Essity is behind Tork PaperCircle® as the service is called. They are the ones who collect and make new products from Speed's used paper towels. The project will be launched on December 1 at Speed's facilities in Borås. If the initiative is successful, the goal is to implement it at other locations as well.
