Speed plant nominated for Solar Energy Award.
Today we are very proud of Speed. We have been nominated for this year’s Solar Energy Award in the category Plant of the Year. It is our solar cell plant on the roof of our property in Viared – the largest in the Nordic region – that prompted the nomination.
At Speed, we have decided to have CO2-neutral operations by 2025. We all have a responsibility for the climate and are committed to doing everything we can. That is why last year we installed the largest roof-based solar cell plant in the Nordic region – both in terms of surface area and capacity – on our new warehouse property in Viared, outside Borås. The solar cells cover a gigantic area of 60,000 m² and produce 4 gigawatt hours of glorious green electricity. The plant is now being recognized by Svensk Solenergi with a nomination for the Solar Energy Award as Plant of the Year.
“It’s great that our commitment and the investments we make towards sustainable business are recognized in this way,” says Mats Johnson, CEO speed.
Svensk Solenergi is the organisation behind the award, and their focus is to work for a greener Sweden by being the leading voice for solar energy. Since 2004, the Solar Energy Prize has been awarded in two categories – Plant of the Year and Performance of the Year. The awards go to facilities, companies, or individuals whose progress is worth highlighting as good examples to be inspired by.
The winners are selected by a jury consisting of researchers from Chalmers and Rise, among others, and will be revealed at an award ceremony on February 17.
