SPEED’S WOOD WASTE BECOMES FURNITURE.
Worn-out pallets and wooden packaging get new life in the furniture industry.
At Speed, we are taking big steps in our sustainability journey – starting in March 2025, a large portion of the company’s wood waste will be given new life as furniture! Through a collaboration with Stena Recycling, the wood will be recycled and used in the production of new particle boards, becoming raw material for the furniture industry.
Wood waste becomes a resource.
Until now, Speed’s wood waste—mostly packaging materials—has been sent for energy recovery. This meant that the material was burned to produce district heating and electricity, a process in which the resource was essentially consumed. But now, things are changing.
Instead of being incinerated, the wood will still be crushed at Speed’s facility in Borås before being transported to Stena Recycling. However, the process from there is entirely new. The material will now undergo quality control, fine crushing, and sorting before being turned into raw material for particle board production. This way, the wood becomes part of the circular economy and is reused in new products.
A major environmental gain.
The impact of this change is significant. Wood waste accounts for 36% of all waste at Speed, and previously, 63% of it was sent for energy recovery. Now, that percentage is reduced to just 10%. By reusing wood instead of burning it, Speed takes an important step toward more sustainable resource management.
Pioneering in Borås.
Speed is the first company in Borås to recycle wood waste, paving the way for others to follow. Previously, Speed received compensation for sending wood waste to incineration. Now, by instead recycling it into new wood products, that compensation disappears—but we contribute to a more sustainable process. Despite this, the long-term benefits are clear: by collaborating and finding new solutions, we as a company can drive real change. With this initiative, Speed proves that waste doesn’t have to be the end—rather, it can be a new beginning.

From now on, the wood will be recycled and turned into furniture.
