Some projects are more profound and important than others. For us at Speed, supporting "It could have been us" is one such project. It is an initiative we are proud to support, as it reflects our values of everyone's equal value and right to inclusion. The project is led by the Glada Hudikteatern, with the charismatic and committed Pär Johansson at the helm, and aims to shine a light on a dark and unjust part of our history - that of how people with disabilities have been treated. By shedding light on a terrible past, the project aims to create a better and more inclusive future for us all. It's not just about redress, but also about giving hope for the future.
Borås has the great honor of being one of 12 Swedish cities chosen to manifest this important project. The photographer Karl Nordlund has been commissioned to portray nine amazing models from Borås, who now adorn a giant banner in the heart of the city. Starting today, it can be seen at the intersection of Allégatan and Lilla Brogatan, and it will hang there until November. This visual expression will be a reminder of how far we have come, but also of how much we still have to do to create an inclusive world.
The highlight of this journey will be the highly anticipated film premiere ofIt Could Have Been Us (Det kunde varit vi), which will give voice to the previously invisible and show the power of allowing all people to be seen and heard.
We at Speed stand wholeheartedly behind this message. People's equal value and right to be seen should be a given, but we know that it takes all of us to take a stand and act to make this vision a reality.
